Obligatory New Years Post

Get Clear. Get Into Grad School. Get On With Your Life.

by Dr. Khia on December 30, 2011

Welp, it’s that time of the year again. Another year comes to a close and fades into the next. It’s par for the course to expect a bunch of New Years Resolutions posts and this blog is no different!

YGSC is still in its infancy and there is a whole lot in store for 2012. And not just for YGSC, but for myself. My personal philosophy is if you’re not taking a step closer to what you want or where you want to be, even if you’re just standing still, you’re still falling behind. In that spirit, there is one thing I would like to speak into existence in this upcoming year:

We’re going worldwide, baby

OK. Maybe not so literally. But one of my major goals is to spread the reach of YGSC. Why? Because it’s critically important and I’ll tell you why.

Brilliance makes the world go round. And there are tons of brilliant people who have something to contribute to the world who may not get the chance without the proper letters behind their name.

I was almost one of them. It may be debatable if I’m brilliant or not – haha – but it is true that I may not have gotten my chance. Three times I applied to Ph.D. programs in my field. I finally got the acceptance letter I had been seeking, but after three years of putting my aspirations on hold. How priceless would it have been to get into grad school the first time?

New Year’s Mission

So for this worldwide mission, I’m getting social. I’m blogging. I’m Facebooking and tweeting. I’m planning on conferencing and workshopping. If your plans include graduate school, then I’m on a mission to give you what you need to get where you want to go.

I’m making myself available to answer questions you have about grad school, career, life, and the intersections of each.

I’m helping you come to solid conclusions about which graduate programs to apply to, how many programs to apply to, and how to seek out good mentorship.

I’m reviewing and critiquing to add flair and polish to personal statement essays.

I’m standing in YOUR corner. Assisting you with what you need, even if it’s a swift kick in the behind for the sake of accountability. It’s about doing what you need to do TODAY to set yourself up for the plans you have for tomorrow.

YGSC is going worldwide – bringing out brilliance, getting you to the next level, getting into grad school and on with your life.

Your brilliance belongs in grad school!
